The term graphic design is a Greek rendering of the English term graphic design, coined in the 1920s by William Andison, using two English words, one derived from Greek (graphic) and the other from Latin (disegno meaning design), to identify a new profession that had gradually taken shape in industrial societies and which until then had no specific name.
